The Project Gestão e Tecnologia Aplicada (Management and Applied Technology), for teenagers in high school, has the objective to initiate the process of entering the professional environment and capacitate the students for their first job. The project has in schedule the study of programming platforms, which will allow better understanding about the functionalities of a computer and develop a better user experience.

Many scholars explain the importance of teaching programming to youngsters. Mitchel Resnick, director of a MIT Media Lab studying group, defend that programming is one of the abilities of the 21st century, as important as writing and reading. According to him, the world is full of technologies and who doesn’t learn to programming will be programmed. Programming is a path to making people fluent in new technologies. The HP CEO in Brazil, Claudio Raupp, declared the importance of programming on an interview for Folha de São Paulo, local newspaper, which he said, “The Apple CEO, Tim Cook, affirmed that learning to program is more important than learning a second language. I agree with him. For the Brazilians is necessary to learn English and programming”.

Following this market trend and to meet the increasing demand from the youngsters in the community, Vila Missionária, AFESU Veleiros introduced in the project, Gestão e Tecnologia Aplicada, the study about Arduino, an electronic prototyping platform. The Arduino was created with the purpose of being an easy programming language, with low cost and easy to use. The students are learning how to use Arduino and are getting a better comprehension about the things that surround them. The entrepenuer, Camila Achutti, compares the present with the scribes times. “People today appeal to ‘digital scribes’ to make daily decisions. The importance of teaching programming is exactly that, giving autonomy to people”.
